Waste Minimization
In order to reduce the amount of trash that ends up in our landfills, Aramark has made a commitment to reduce single-use disposable plastics across operations by 2022. We are minimizing the use of plastic straws and stirrers, expanding offerings of reusable dishware and food storage items, and partnering with suppliers to reduce packaging. In addition to offering products like recyclable coffee pods, compostable and plant-based cutlery, and wooden stir sticks, we have also launched the "Sip Smarter" campaign to raise awareness about the effects of single-use plastics. Through this campaign, we aim to inform our customers of the operational changes and educate them on ways to reduce personal consumption of single-use plastics to drive significant change.
We are proud to be recognized by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) as a Food Loss and Waste 2030 Champion. U.S. Food Loss and Waste 2030 Champions are businesses and organizations that have made a public commitment to reduce food loss and waste in their own operations in the United States by 50 percent by the year 2030.
Food DonationsMeticulous inventory tracking and accurate food ordering processes allow us to reduce food waste across the organization. However, when unusual circumstances leave us with a surplus of food, we partner with The Food Donation Connection (FDC) to donate unused food and beverage items to non-profit organizations including shelters, community centers, food
antries, and children's organizations.
